The Spanish Conquistadores discovered the avocado as an unusual, savory fruit in northern South America, Central America, and Mexico. During the Columbian Exchange, the avocado was transported around the globe along with other tropical fruits, chocolate, animals, plants, technology, diseases, and ideas. The Columbian Exchange was named after Christopher Columbus in the 15th and 16th centuries.
