The US has become the world’s biggest consumer of avocados, but the domestic supply is not enough. Today, over 80% of avocados come from other countries, primarily from Mexico and followed by Chile.

Mexico is the world's largest producer of avocados. The 'Green Gold' is produced primarily in the state of Michoacán.  

In 2007, Mexico overtook Chile as the dominant supplier, and by 2018 accounted for 89% of fresh avocado imports.
