In the late 1970s and 1980s, avocado consumption increased due to the rapid growth of the U.S. Latino population. Even though it was mostly consumed by Mexican-Americans, it also increased in popularity across all Americans. In 2007, the Hass Avocado Board found that 97% of Hispanic shoppers bought avocados, but so did 49% of the general population.

The immigration of the Mexican population in America, along with The California Avocado Commission and NAFTA have all contribute to increasing avocado consumption in the US.
